MJJC Australia Detailing Tips & Hacks

MJJC Australia will be launching our range of chemicals soon.

We will be launching a 5-Step cleaning system which would cover most of the vehicle maintenance wash focused especially for ceramic coated vehicles. Non-ceramic coated vehicles would also achieve hydrophobic results with our cleaning system.

  1. Snow Foam Shampoo pH Neutral
  2. Wheel Cleaner + Iron Remover
  3. Ceramic Sealing Topper
  4. Glass Cleaner
  5. Interior Cleaner

This is going to be a long read but please bear with us as we hope we won’t miss out on any details.

Our recommendations may not be the best but these are experiences on how we thoroughly clean our vehicles.

Do’s

  • For ceramic coated or vehicles with Paint Protection Film installed, only use pH Neutral Shampoo (any shampoo will produce thick foam with the MJJC Foam Cannon Pro V2).
  • Contact wash is recommended at least once every fortnight.
  • Always use a Chenille Microfiber Mitt as it traps dirt in the mitt. Rinse with the 2-bucket method or just rinse with spraying water with your pressure washer.
  • Weekly maintenance wash or Foam & Rinse is recommended to reduce dirt build-up. Depending on how dirty your vehicle is, a contact wash may not be required.
  • Keep a bottle of All Purpose Cleaner (APC) in your vehicle with a MJJC Microfiber Bug Remover & Wheel Detailer when doing long trips or driving at night towards the countryside.

Always remove bird droppings & bugs soonest possible.

Whenever convenient, find a self-serve car wash & rinse with water. Spray a generous amount of APC on the area with the bug guts or bird droppings & leave it to soak for 2 minutes.
Then with the grid-patterned side of the MJJC Bug Remover, lightly remove the bugs, bird droppings or even tar.

Rinse immediately after.

Don’t’s

  • Do not wash your car in direct sunlight or when your vehicle’s surface is too hot to lay your palm on.
  • Do not use the Auto Wash or Self-service auto wash. The chemicals used are strong in acid or alkaline which would damage the paint protection on your car. It is impossible to clean a vehicle fast without hazardous chemicals & contactless. Some washing combos in auto washers apply wax-based shampoo or wax in their washing.
  • Do not apply wax or polish on ceramic coated vehicles.

Before we decide which shampoo is best for your vehicle, we need to identify the protection you have on your vehicle.

Here is why:

  • Ceramic Coated, Paint Protection Film (PPF), Polish & Wax vehicles are recommended to use pH Neutral shampoos which are gentle on these protections but at the same time remove harsh dirt.
  • Using a pre-wash via a foam cannon & then a bucket of clean water with grid guard, remove hard dirt such as sand, small stones & bird dropping. This method highly reduces the chances of scratches & swirls on your vehicle paint.
    1. Always wash your car when the vehicle’s surface is cool & out of direct sunlight.
    2. Always rinse your car thoroughly avoiding any shampoo streaks or stains.
    3. For an even more professional vehicle washing method, you would need to demineralize the water used to wash & rinse your vehicle to avoid water spot stains.
    4. Always dry your car with either a thick drying towel such as the MJJC Supersize Drying Towel or with a vehicle blower dryer.

Here are the methods & it is always recommended to wash your car away from direct sunlight & with a cool vehicle surface.

Wheels

Always clean your wheels first as it would be the dirtiest part of any vehicle.

  • Always clean the wheels one at time by applying wheel cleaner (any dedicated wheel cleaner with iron de-contaminator to remove brake dust) & wait for 1 minute. We have good experience with Mirch Grime Off for its cleaning ability & value.
  • Use a Tyre Brush to scrub the tyres off excess dirt.
  • Then agitate the areas with MJJC Scratchless Bristle Wheel Brush for the rims & inner barrel and MJJC Detailing Boar Brisle Brush for the wheel spokes.
  • Rinse immediately and do not allow the wheel cleaner to dry on the surface as it may strip the paint on your wheels.
  • Remember to always snow foam each wheel during pre-soak & rinse thoroughly to remove any excess wheel cleaners.

Pre-Soak / Pre-Wash

  • If the vehicle is extremely dirty, we do recommend using a citrus-based pH-neutral pre-wash. This chemical will remove road grime & hard dirt. In most cases, this is used for the lower half of the vehicle. Always use a snow foam after using a pre-wash to ensure any excess pre-wash is removed.
  • Then Snow Foam the entire vehicle from Top to Bottom to reduce potential scratches & swirls. (Dirt from the top will flow downward toward the lower area of the car which usually consists of harder dirt such as mud)
  • Allow the thick foam to dwell & agitate dirt on the vehicle’s surface to remove as much hard dirt as possible such as bird dropping, poo & road stains. Wait for approximately 4 – 5 minutes. Depending on your vehicle's protective coat, some snow foam may require a shorter or longer time. When the snow foam on the side windows of the vehicle starts to dry, that would be an indication that it is time to rinse.
  • Rinse your vehicle thoroughly to avoid any shampoo streaks.

Contact Wash

1 Bucket Method with Grit Guard (clean water to remove dirt picked up from the wash mitt.

The recommended method used by many detailers would be the 2 bucket method with the second bucket filled with shampoo used to lubricate the wash mitt. Because we foam the vehicle with the MJJC Foam Cannon, the vehicle will already be lubricated.

  • Snow foam a section of your vehicle (subdivide your car into 4 sections – Left Front & Back, Right Front & Back). This method will prevent shampoo from drying up before you completely contact wash the entire vehicle.
  • Using a MJJC Microfiber Chenille Wash Mitt work from the roof then move towards your windscreen & then to lower areas. Only use a horizontal wipe down for example, 1 straight wipe from the roof to the windscreen then to the bonnet and finally towards the front end of your vehicle and ending in your front bumper.
  • Then immediately rinse this section.
  • Clean the wash mitt in the Clean Water bucket & scrub the mitt on the grit guard / dirt trap to remove excess residue trapped on the mitt such as sand, stones, and seeds from bird droppings.
  • Then move on to the next section until the entire vehicle is contact-washed.
  • Remember to also snow foam your wheels & tires to remove any excess wheel cleaner to avoid stains or paint strips.
  • After contact washing the entire vehicle, do another rinse pass on all sections including tires.
  • Finally, dry the entire vehicle with a MJJC Supersized Plush Coral Fleece Drying Towel or blower.
  • Go through the entire car to spot any shampoo streaks on the body & glass.

For a more extreme wash for vehicles without ceramic coating or PPF, you could choose a shampoo with higher or lower pH levels.

We do not have any experience with these shampoos. Therefore google searching would be recommended.

Decontamination Wash

* Always check if the product is compatible with application on ceramic coatings & PPF to avoid damaging the protective layer.

Always apply on a small test area to test the product to avoid damaging your vehicle’s paint.

All Purpose Cleaner (APC) pH Neutral Citrus Base

One cleaner we recommend keeping handy at home or in your vehicle is All Purpose Cleaner. Look out for pH Neutral cleaners which are citrus-based cleaner and do not harm protectants. This works well after a long road trip with lots of bug splatters. This cleaner can also be used on engine bays & more contaminated areas. Dilution is required depending on the area.

Gtechniq W5 Citrus All Puspose Cleaner

  • Spray the product on affected areas.
  • Allow to dwell for 2 minutes. Do not allow it to dry on the surface.
  • Using the MJJC Microfiber Bug Remover, gently agitate the area.
  • Rinse thoroughly with a pressure washer.
  • Foam Wash your vehicle as you will do after.

For vehicles with protective sealants such as ceramic coatings or PPF, it is advisable to perform a decontamination wash every 3 months or depending on the dirt level to remove hazardous road grime & unclog the pores of the ceramic coating. This is crucial in maintaining the ceramic coat as well as reinforcing the hydrophobic properties.

Just add a small amount of All Purpose Cleaner (APC) to the foam cannon mix (shampoo + APC) and wash your vehicle (pre-soak & contact wash).

Iron & Tart Remover

Use an Iron & Tar Remover for a more thorough decontamination wash.

Tar removers are mostly applied to the lower half of the vehicle while Iron removers are generally sprayed on the vehicle's body.

Gyeon Q2M Iron

  • Work away from direct sunlight & with the vehicle panels cool.
  • Do not allow the product to dry on the vehicle.
  • Spray generously on the entire vehicle & wait for a up to 2 minutes.
  • The reaction with any iron particles will turn the product purple or red.
  • Rinse thoroughly rinsing all of the product from the vehicle.
  • Foam Wash your vehicle as you will do after.

Carpro Iron X Lemon Surface Cleaner

Similar to Gyeon Q2M Iron.

Gyeon Q2M Tar Remover

  • Work away from direct sunlight & with the vehicle panels cool.
  • Do not allow the product to dry on the vehicle.
  • Spray the product on the lower parts of the vehicle where possible tar from road grime may have contaminated.
  • Wait for 2 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
  • Foam Wash your vehicle as you will do after.

*Always apply these products away from sunlight & not allow it to dry on the surface. Always rinse thoroughly to avoid damage to the paint.

** Always reseal the vehicle with a ceramic topper after every decontamination wash.

Here are some ceramic sealants you could apply:

 Carpro Reload 2.0

  • This will enhance or improve the hydrophobic protection as well as increase gloss & would last approximately 3 months.
  • To apply the topper, just spray 3 to 5 sprays on each panel & with 2 microfiber towels, use one to spread the product & wait for 2 minutes. Then with the other microfiber towel, buff the panel for shine.

Gyeon Q2M Wet Coat

This is an easier application method.

  • Contact wash & rinse
  • While the vehicle is still wet, spray 3 to 5 sprays on each panel
  • Rinse immediately with the pressure washer by spraying upwards from bottom up to spread the product. The chemical will turn white. Rinse thoroughly after.

Carpro HydO2 Wipeless Silica Spray

Similar to Gyeon Wet Coat, simply just spray 2 to 5 sprays on each panel & rinse immediately with a pressure washer from upwards from the bottom.

* We recommend to not reuse microfiber towels or wash in the washing machine. Microfiber towels with any ceramic or silica products will create a hydrophobic layer in any items it comes into contact with.

Tyre Shine

We have good experience with Carpro Perl.

This product lasts longer keeping the tyres black with shine.

  • With a sponge, apply a thin layer of the product on the tyres and allow it to dry.
  • A little goes a long way, so don’t over apply the product.
  • We recommend not driver the car immediately to avoid the product splattering on your rims.

Non pH Neutral Shampoos

For more contaminated vehicles such as 4x4s after a long road trips, a stronger shampoo might be required on non-protected vehicles. We do not have any shampoos to recommend as we have no experience using these.

Salt Remover Shampoos

There are also shampoos to remove salt contaminants usually used on boats, jet-skis and etc. We do not have experience using these as well.
